Twitter rolled out a new update to its service, plans to make the social app more competitive with mobile messaging applications. The company says it’s introducing many new features for Direct Messages and its Private Messaging feature includes things like read receipts, typing indicators, and web link preview.

Read receipts and typing indicators are features are regular to almost all mobile messaging apps. In group messages, Twitter will likewise show who have seen the post you shared, or will note - Seen by everyone, when the entire group has seen your post.

Then, the addition of web link preview is something that plans to bring the Twitter experience closer, like iMessage. In iOS 10, which is landing on September 13, iMessage will offer rich link previews of the web links you’re texting to a friend.

Shockingly, Twitter had not yet upheld this in Direct Messages (DM), regardless of the way that it considers rich media in its main Twitter timeline. The DM service, in fact, hadn’t seen much consideration throughout the years until Twitter made the decision past summer to drop the 140 character limit from private messaging.
